If you’re entering the password shown on the router label but still getting a “password incorrect” message on the login page, don’t panic — there are a few common reasons why this might happen.
1. You’re entering the Wi-Fi password instead of the admin password
This is the most common mistake. Many D-Link routers show two different passwords on their label — one for the Wi-Fi connection and another for logging into the admin page. Make sure you’re using the one labeled “Admin Password” or “Login Password.” The Wi-Fi key won’t work for router login.
2. The password is case-sensitive
Router passwords often include uppercase and lowercase letters. For example, “Admin123” is not the same as “admin123.” Enter your password carefully, double-checking each character before you submit.
3. The admin password has been changed
If someone in your family (or your network admin) has changed the router’s default login password, the one printed on the label will no longer work. Try asking whoever set up the router for the updated password.
If no one remembers it, you can reset the router to factory settings. After that, the login will return to the default (usually “admin” or blank), and you can set a new admin password.
4. Temporary sync or browser issues
Sometimes, login problems happen right after restarting or changing router settings. The router and device may not have synced yet, or your browser might be using cached data. In this case, wait a minute, then refresh the page, or try logging in from another browser — that usually solves it.
