Step 1: Connect to Your Router
First, make sure your computer or phone is connected to the router’s Wi-Fi network. If your device isn’t connected, you won’t be able to access the 192.168.1.1 admin page.
Step 2: Open the Login Page
Open a browser on your device and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.
Type carefully and double-check the address to avoid common mistakes, such as:
- 192.1681.1
- 192.168 1.1
- ip:192.168.1.1
- www.192.168.1.1
- 192.168.1.1.com
- http//192.168.1.1
- https://192.168.1.1.com
- 192.168.l.1
- 192,168,1,1
- http://192.168.1.1/
- 192.168.1.1 login
- 192.168.1.1 admin
All of the above will fail to open the admin login page. The correct way is to clear the address bar and type 192.168.1.1 directly, then press Enter (or tap Go). You can also click the link http://192.168.1.1.
Step 3: Enter Admin Username and Password
Once the login page appears, you’ll need to enter the administrator username and password.
Most routers use admin/admin as the default credentials. Some routers only require a password, such as admin or 1234, without a username.
If you haven’t changed your router’s default settings, check the label on the back of the device—it usually lists the default username and password.
If you have changed the admin credentials, use the updated password to log in. If you’ve forgotten it, look for a “Forgot Password” or “Reset” option on the login page to reset it. Alternatively, you can press and hold the router’s reset button for about 10 seconds to restore factory settings, then log in with the default credentials. Note that this will require you to reconfigure your internet connection.
Step 4: Find the Wi-Fi Settings
After logging in, navigate to the “Wireless Settings” or “Wi-Fi Settings” section. The exact menu names vary by router brand, but most routers place these options under a Wi-Fi related category.
Step 5: Change Your Wi-Fi Password
In the wireless security section, look for a field labeled “Password” or “PSK Key.” Delete the old password, enter your new password, confirm it, and save the changes. The router will automatically apply the new password.
For security, it’s recommended to use a password of at least 8 characters, combining letters and numbers. Avoid using easily guessed information like birthdays or phone numbers.
