If you use a Netgear router at home and want to change your Wi-Fi password or review network settings, you’ll need to open the Netgear admin interface. Netgear provides a dedicated login address — routerlogin.net — which is easier to use than typing an IP address. Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started.

How to Access routerlogin.net

Step 1: Connect to your Netgear Wi-Fi

Before you can open the admin page, make sure your phone or computer is connected to your Netgear router, either through Wi-Fi or with an Ethernet cable.

Important: You must be connected to the exact router you want to configure. For example, if your Wi-Fi name is “NETGEAR-5G,” connect to that. If you accidentally connect to another network, routerlogin.net won’t open.

Step 2: Open a browser and go to routerlogin.net

Once connected, open a browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or the built-in mobile browser will all work). In the address bar, type http://routerlogin.net and hit Enter. Don’t put it in the search box—otherwise, you’ll just get search results instead of the login page.

Tip: Some browsers may redirect you to a search page. If that happens, try switching to Chrome, Edge, or your phone’s default browser.

Step 3: Enter your login details

When the login page loads, you’ll be asked for a username and password.

By default, the username is admin and the password is password. Check here for Common Netgear login credentials

If you’ve already created your own login, enter that instead.

Remember: Both the username and password are case-sensitive.

Step 4: Access the Netgear admin panel

After logging in successfully, you’ll land on the Netgear admin dashboard. From here, you can manage settings like your Wi-Fi name and password, network security, parental controls, and more. Make your changes and don’t forget to hit Save when you’re done.

Common Issues & Quick Fixes

1. Can’t open routerlogin.net?

First, double-check the spelling and try again. If it still won’t load, try the default IP address instead: http://192.168.1.1 (most Netgear routers use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway).

2. Password is wrong or you forgot it?

If you see an “incorrect password” message, try your Wi-Fi password — on some Netgear models the router’s admin password is the same as the Wi-Fi password.

If you’ve forgotten your admin password, look for a “Forgot Password” option on the login page and follow the prompts to recover or reset it.

As a last resort, press and hold the router’s Reset (RST) button to restore factory settings. The username and password will revert to the defaults (admin / password). Then log in with the defaults and reconfigure your network. See: How to Reset a Netgear Router
