192.168.1.1 Not Working? How to Access Your Router Settings
When unable to access their router's admin page, many people instinctively keep typing "192.168.1.1.1" over and over, getting more anxious when it doesn't work. But they don’t realize they've entered the wrong IP address.
Why Can't I Access 192.168.1.1?
If 192.168.1.1 isn't working, calmly verify whether you're entering 192.168.1.1 or the invalid IP, such as 192.168.1.1.1.
192.168.1.1.1 is not a valid IP address.
An IP address consists of four sets of numbers, like 192.168.1.1, separated by dots (.), and each number must be between 0 and 255.
When typing 192.168.1.1 quickly, it's easy to accidentally enter 192.168.1.1.1.
192.168.1.1.1 has an extra segment, which the browser can't recognize, leading to a "Page not found" or "Invalid address" error. In this case, just remove the last .1 and change the address back to 192.168.1.1 to access the router login page.
Which Devices Use 192.168.1.1 as Default Gateway?
192.168.1.1 serves as the default gateway for numerous home networking devices, particularly routers and mobile hotspots. Major brands including TP-Link, Mercury, FAST, and Tenda predominantly use this address.
Additionally, some ISP-provided modems (fiber modems with built-in routing functions) also use 192.168.1.1 as the backend admin address.
Simply put, if the user manual or the label on the back of the device shows “Default gateway: 192.168.1.1,” then that’s most likely the correct one.
However, some brands or models may use different addresses, like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.3.1. To confirm the exact address for your device, just check the sticker on the bottom of the device.
How to Log into 192.168.1.1?
1. Connect to the Router
This critical first step is often overlooked.
To access the router's admin panel, your device must be connected to that router’s network:
For mobile users: Make sure you're connected to WiFi and it's from the router you want to configure.
For PC users: It’s best to use an Ethernet cable, or connect to the correct WiFi network.
If you're not on the router’s network, the address won't open.
2. Open a browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar
This is where many people go wrong. Remember:
The address bar is the long field at the top or bottom of the browser—don’t type it into a search engine like Baidu;
Don't enter 192.168.1.1.1 or add spaces, Chinese characters, or other symbols;
We recommend using Chrome, Edge, Safari, or your phone's default browser to enter this address.
After typing the address, hit Enter or tap “Go,” and it should take you to a login screen.
3. Enter the username and password to log in
Once you reach the login page, enter the username (if required) and password. Here are common situations:
The default username and password are usually admin / admin;
If you've changed them before, enter your custom credentials;
If you've forgotten the login info, reset the router and use the factory settings to log in and reconfigure your network.
