Which Routers Use 192.168.49.1 for Login?

192.168.49.1 is a private (local) IP address that can be used as a device gateway or admin address. That said, it’s not a common default router login IP. Most home and business routers typically use 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.254, or 10.0.0.1 instead. Only certain routers or network devices (for example, some projectors and wireless display/screen-sharing adapters) may use 192.168.49.1 as the default address.

To confirm whether your router uses 192.168.49.1, check the sticker on the bottom of the router or the user manual—both usually list the default IP/login URL. If you can’t find that information, try typing 192.168.49.1 into your browser’s address bar to see whether the login page loads. See also: List of Default Router Login IPs.

How to Log In to Your Router Using 192.168.49.1?

These steps work on both phones and computers and will take you to the router’s management (admin) interface.

1. Connect your device to the router: Make sure your computer or smartphone is connected to the router’s Wi-Fi network, or plug in with an Ethernet cable. You usually can’t reach the admin page unless you’re on the same network.

2. Open a web browser: Use any modern browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.

3. Enter 192.168.49.1 in the address bar: Type http://192.168.49.1 (or simply 192.168.49.1) into the address bar and press Enter. If this is your router’s admin IP, the login screen should appear.

4. Enter your router username and password: On the login page, enter the admin username and password. If you haven’t changed them, try the default credentials printed on the router label or listed in the manual. Common defaults include admin or user (and sometimes a device-specific password).

5. Open the admin panel and change settings: After you sign in, you’ll be in the router’s admin dashboard. From there, you can change the Wi-Fi name/password, set up a guest network, update firmware, and adjust security settings.

Important Notes

  • If you can’t log in, double-check the IP address and your credentials. Common typos include 192.168.491 (missing a dot) and 192.168.49.I (capital “I” instead of the number “1”).
  • If you forgot the admin password, you can reset the router by pressing and holding the reset button for a few seconds (this usually restores default settings). See: How to Reset Your Router Password.
  • For better security, change the router’s admin password regularly and avoid easy/default passwords.
