When it comes to routers, many people might first think of brands like TP-Link and Netgear. However, if you are familiar with German routers, you have likely heard of Fritzbox. Manufactured by AVM, Fritzbox is known for its stability and powerful features, making it a popular choice for households and offices across Germany and Europe.

The main Fritzbox series include:

  • Fritzbox 7590: Flagship model supporting high-speed DSL and Wi-Fi 6.
  • Fritzbox 7530: Mid-range model suitable for home users.
  • Fritzbox 4040: A version without a DSL modem, ideal for fiber optic connections or users with an existing modem.
  • Fritzbox 6820 LTE: Supports 4G LTE connectivity, suitable for mobile network environments.

Fritzbox Default Gateway

192.168.178.1 is the default local IP address (gateway address) for Fritzbox routers.

If you are going to access the Fritzbox's admin panel for network settings, Wi-Fi configuration, security management, and other tasks, you will need to use 192.168.178.1.

However, if you have changed the router’s default IP address, meaning the gateway address is no longer 192.168.178.1, then using 192.168.178.1 will not open the Fritzbox login page.

In that case, you can find the actual gateway address of your Fritzbox by following these steps:

  • On Windows: Open the “Command Prompt” (Win + R, type cmd, and press Enter), then type ipconfig and press Enter. Look under “Default Gateway” for the router’s IP address.
  • On Mac: Open “Terminal” and enter netstat -nr | grep default to find the IP address listed after “default.”

Additionally, you can also try accessing the router via http://fritz.box.

Fritzbox Login Username & Password

For most Fritzbox routers, the default username can leave blank (no username required), while some older models may use “admin.”

As for the password, some models (such as Fritz!Box 7530/7590) do not come with a preset login password, requiring users to create one upon first login. You can also check the label on the bottom of the Fritzbox to see if there is a “Router Password” or “Gerätepasswort” listed—if so, that is the default password.

If you have changed the login password but forgotten it, you can reset the router by holding the reset button for 10 seconds to restore factory settings.

Warm Tips

Please enter the login address directly in the browser’s address bar, such as http://192.168.178.1. Do not enter it in a search box, and avoid adding any prefixes or mistyping the numbers. Incorrect entries like “www.192.168.178.1.com” or “192.168.l78.1” will lead to an error page!
