When using a router on a daily basis, the IP address 10.10.10.254 is commonly used as the default gateway address to log into the router’s management interface. To ensure network security, it's crucial to manage your router login password properly. Here's my experience on how to set up and change your router's login password.
1. Find Your Login Password First
Before making any changes, I recommend confirming the initial login information of your router. Here are a few ways to do this:
Check the router’s label: Most routers have a label on the back or bottom that lists the default management address (like 10.10.10.254), along with the username and password (e.g., admin/admin or admin/1234).
Refer to the manual: The router’s user manual usually includes the default login information.
Reset the router: If the password has been changed and you’ve forgotten it, you can restore the factory settings by pressing and holding the router’s “reset” button. This will reset the password to the default one. Click to read the detailed guide on how to reset your router.
2. 10.10.10.254 Login and Admin the Router
Connect to the router: You can use either a mobile phone or a computer. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone or computer, find the router’s Wi-Fi name, and enter the correct Wi-Fi password to connect. If you’re using a desktop computer with no Wi-Fi or your device’s signal is unstable, you can use an Ethernet cable. Plug one end into the router’s LAN port and the other end into your computer’s network port.
Enter the IP address: Open your web browser and type http://10.10.10.254 in the address bar, then press Enter. It’s recommended to use popular browsers like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox, as older versions of Internet Explorer may not support some router interfaces. Be careful not to mistype the IP address as 10.10.10.10.254 or l0.l0.l0.254.
Enter the login username and password: Use the default username and password, such as admin/admin. If you’ve changed them, use the credentials you set yourself.
3. 10.10.10.254 Change Your Router Login Password
Don’t use the default password anymore — it’s just not secure. It’s highly recommended to set a secure yet easy-to-remember password.
Find the administrator password option: Once logged in, go to the management page. You’ll usually find the option to change your login password under “System Settings” or “Administrator.”
Change password: Fill in a password that includes uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters (for example, Router@2025). Avoid using personal information like birthdays or simple passwords like “123456.”
Save the settings: After you change the password, make sure to click "Save" or "Apply." The system might automatically restart, and you can log in again using the new password.
4. Extra Tips
Remember, the router login password is for managing the device, while the Wi-Fi password is used to connect to the wireless network. They are not necessarily the same, so be sure to distinguish between the two. In the next article, I will show you how to change your Wi-Fi password.
