Worried that someone is using your Wi-Fi without permission and want to change your Wi-Fi password? If you take a look at your router, you'll usually find a label on the bottom with an IP address printed on it.
192.168.1.1 is one of the most common router login addresses. Some routers use 192.168.0.1, while others use a domain such as tplinkwifi.net as their management address. This address is the gateway to your router's settings page, where you can log in to the admin panel and change your Wi-Fi password.
Here, we'll use 192.168.1.1 as an example and show you how to access your router's settings page and change your Wi-Fi password to prevent unauthorized access.
How to Change Your Wi-Fi Password via 192.168.1.1
1. First, connect the phone or computer you're using to the router's Wi-Fi. You can also connect the router directly with an Ethernet cable. If you're using a phone, it's a good idea to turn off mobile data to avoid any connection issues when accessing the router's admin panel.
2. Open a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar (or enter the IP address shown on your router's label). Tap "Go" or press Enter to open the login page. If the page doesn't load, first check that you're connected to the correct Wi-Fi network, then check your router's actual login address to make sure it is 192.168.1.1.
3. Once the login screen appears, enter your router's username and password. The default login details are usually printed on the router's label, and some older routers may use "admin" as the default. If you've changed the admin password before, enter the password you set.
4. After logging in to the router's admin panel, find "Wireless" in the menu to open the Wi-Fi settings page. Depending on your router's admin interface, you may need to click a sub-menu like "Wireless Security" to locate the password field.
5. On the Wi-Fi settings page, dual-band routers will usually show the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. Locate the "Wireless Password" field and enter your new Wi-Fi password. 6. Click "Save" when you are finished. Some routers may ask you to restart the router for the changes to take effect. Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the router to restart. Once it's back up, find the new Wi-Fi network on your phone or computer, enter the new password, and reconnect to the internet.
